An American company has developed a system that uses facial recognition technology to deliver targeted location-based deals directly to users mobiles. Anyone wishing to use the system would need to authorise a Facedeals app on their Facebook account and businesses would also need to invest in a Facedeals camera. At the moment this is a pilot and is not affiliated with Facebook. It has some way to go before we see it in use but the concept is interesting.

To bring the “effectiveness and simplicity” of its direct banking to the attention of 20 somethings at basketball events across Germany, ING-DiBa created a hoop shoot game that people could play on their smartphones. A digital billboard was set up outside basketball games and using a specially designed app people were awarded “three free plays” where they could attempt to get a virtual ball through the virtual hoop by going through the motion of throwing with their smartphone in hand. After their three attempts the app posted a picture of their best shot onto the player’s Facebook wall.

This new development could be a game changer at trade shows, events and visitor centres. It’s a walk-in LCD display cube with real-time 3D rendering visualisation and surround sound! Blimey! Multiple users can take command of the screen simultaneously. Consumers can use the screen to get information, watch stunning visuals or just become immersed in the experience. It has been developed by Sensory Minds and it’s a great example of how touch screen technology can be applied on a far larger scale than our familiar smartphone or tablet interfaces.

Although the technology isn’t quite perfect yet, Topshop has given its customers a chance to try on clothes virtually with an augmented reality changing room in one of its Moscow stores. Users….erm, sorry, shoppers…get to try on anything they like, then pose and photograph themselves all by standing in front of a screen. We’re not yet at a time where we can superimpose the feeling of the fabric it’s a clever and interesting idea. Fun too, as you can see from the video!

Here’s something that will put a smile on your face – LED teeth!
These brightly coloured, WiFi-enabled mouth accessories have been all the rage with the Japanese youth since fashion retailer Laforet Harajuku used them in their recent Winter season advertising campaign.
Just don’t tell Kanye West, the temptation would be too much for him to bear!
