Nike Freeze Frame experience

Post by BEcause XM

Nike Freeze Frame ExperienceTo promote its new Jordan Brand trainers, CP3.VI, Nike created this eye-catching freeze frame stunt in Venice Beach, California.  The trainers namesake, Los Angeles basketball star Chris Paul, was shown blazing through the Venice Beach basketball courts, knocking into people before reaching the net.  To create the stunt Nike brought in 90 Chris Paul lookalikes and positioned them so it looked like freeze frame photography- the effect is brilliant.

To draw attention to the next generation of Nike Free Run trainers, which boast a “better than barefoot” experience, Nike Japan created an interactive projection mapping display that reacted in real-time when people bent and flexed the Free Run trainers.

Nike recently combined real world action with ARG (alternate reality gaming) to deliver a fun and fresh campaign in Vienna, Austria.   Catch the Flash used real runners, wearing GPS tracking devices and special reflective jackets, for a city wide game of tag.   Players could track the Nike runners on their mobiles and then had to chase after them and tag them by taking a photo.  The flash of the camera would reveal a number on the back of the jacket and the player who collected the most different numbers was pronounced the winner.  The  integration of gaming and a real world experience is bound to get this campaign noticed.  When you sit this alongside the use of runners and healthy competition, you have a very well-conceived campaign that is interesting and clearly aligned with core brand messages.

To launch the new “Jordan Melo M8 trainer” Nike was clearly out to show the creative ingenuity that consumers have come to expect from the brand’s marketing with: “Explosive Water Projections”.  New Yorkers were treated to this extraordinary visual display last week.  The event featured DJs, games and the spectacular light show, all of which must have affirmed the idea, to all who were there, that Nike is bang on trend.  Now that this video is starting to get noticed through social media channels, that idea is being carried to a global audience.

Earlier in the year, Adidas came up with a projection that was mapped onto a building in Marseille (video below).  Fingers crossed that the two sports giants now see this as a battle of cool and we are soon treated to a new offering from Adidas in response to the breathtaking “Explosive Water Projections” from Nike.
