To promote the new US series “Perception” a large interactive dot display was unveiled in New York. Made of hundreds of lights, the wall reacted to movements and tracked activity on the street. The series is about an eccentric neuroscientist, who uses his unique ability to spot patterns to solve criminal cases. In line with the series – the words and images on the dot display were part of a puzzle that passers-by could try and work out.

To highlight issues faced by women and girls in developing countries Plan UK unveiled an interactive hoarding at a London bus stop that only reveals its content to women. A camera measures the facial features of the person standing in front of the screen and analyses whether it is a man or a woman. A 40 second advert is then run if the person is deemed to be female. Although the campaign is not aimed solely at women, the point of the board is to make people more aware of gender discrimination by making them experience it. We’ve also teamed up with Plan UK this year to deliver a year-long programme of consumer-facing events, aimed at boosting sponsorship and awareness of the work the charity does. You can read more about the campaign here.

We love this interactive art, which is currently on display in Paris. A façade of a building, complete with internal lights and weathered brickwork lies flat on the ground. A giant mirror looms above and when people interact with the building on the ground the reflection makes it look like they are hanging off the window ledges. It is a fantastic illusion and was created to encourage audience participation and foster a sense of community. Photos of seemingly daring poses posted online has meant that interest in this installation has spread far and wide. We expect to see much more coverage appear as the installation will remain in place until the beginning of March.

The future of shop windows could quite possibly be interactive. There has been a flurry of activity on our streets recently as more and more companies tap into this fun and fascinating development in outdoor marketing. We think interactive windows are a brilliant way to engage with customers, allowing them to be in control and marvel at the new technology.
At the moment displays are generally playful and enchanting. They capture shoppers’ attention for several minutes, and no doubt spark hundreds of conversations. This really is an interesting way to transform the value of a shop window and align it with our modern, tech hungry leanings.

The Japanese are always one step ahead when it comes to anything technical, so it’s no surprise they’ve invented the interactive vending machine!
Amazingly, the machine watches you approach it with cartoon eyes and then switches on to show you what’s in stock. You can then pay with a pre-paid card or your mobile phone, talk about ease of purchase! Check out this video, courtesy of The Next Web
