A new installation at the Barbican has got people talking this month. Art studio Random International have created an interactive installation where members of the public can walk around in a heavy downpour without getting wet. 3D motion sensors track people’s movement and turn the rain on and off accordingly. The experience is surreal, completely unique and rather beautiful.

We love this beautiful installation in Singapore airport. “Kinetic Rain” consists of 1,216 bronze droplets attached to wires. They are controlled by a specially designed piece of software, which makes the droplets move up and down slowly to create variety of shapes. It’s quite mesmerising.

We love this interactive art, which is currently on display in Paris. A façade of a building, complete with internal lights and weathered brickwork lies flat on the ground. A giant mirror looms above and when people interact with the building on the ground the reflection makes it look like they are hanging off the window ledges. It is a fantastic illusion and was created to encourage audience participation and foster a sense of community. Photos of seemingly daring poses posted online has meant that interest in this installation has spread far and wide. We expect to see much more coverage appear as the installation will remain in place until the beginning of March.

To launch a new campaign, designed to make people more aware of the amount of rubbish that is collected daily in Westminster, a replica of Marble Arch was built that was made entirely out of refuse picked up off the street. The installation was made up from 120 bags of rubbish, collected from Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street in a single day. The model was smaller than the real arch but would have been the same size if made up from two days’ worth of rubbish. Westminster Council spends around £14m on its street cleansing operations every year and it is hoped that this campaign will persuade the public to be more mindful of the effects of littering on the councils resources.

As an extension to the “light painting” adverts that were aired on Canadian TV earlier in the year, Volkswagen launched “Art Heist”, an ambient campaign that has also driven conversation online. Long-exposure photographs, featuring the Volkswagen Jetta GLI creating “light paintings”, were framed and hung in various locations around the country. Anyone who walked past these pop-up galleries was free to take a framed photo home. This is nice, but nothing special. What if we also revealed that each photograph was one of a kind and hand numbered. This transformed the campaign and it quickly gathered pace online as the news spread. Soon hundreds of people were speculating, through social media channels, as to where the next pop gallery would appear and triumphant photos were posted of successful photo hunters and their #VWartheist bounty.
